At Rock UK we firmly believe that adventure is best when it’s a shared experience and so we wanted to help reduce the number of young people whose families have to say “no” to the opportunity of an adventure with their group, due to financial reasons. In 2013 the Rock UK Bursary Fund was introduced and since then it’s given more than 300 young people the opportunity to join their group for a trip to a Rock UK centre; enabling them to have fun with their friends, learn new skills and to create memories for life.
Our bursary scheme is open to applications from any UK group wishing to book a residential or day visit to one of our adventure centres.
We will consider all applications where need is demonstrated by the trip organiser via a completed application form and in a supporting letter. As a general rule, children of families who are in receipt of income support, income based jobseekers allowance, an income-related employment and support allowance, support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act (1999) or child tax credit (not working tax credit) can apply to the Bursary Fund if they require financial assistance. Pupils who are eligible for free school meals can apply for assistance but it must be explained in a covering letter how other funds are also being used to support the individual.
Each application for bursary funding will be judged on its own merits and it is in the interest of applicants to provide as much relevant information as possible in their application. Applicants for the fund must be aged between 6-18 years on the end date of their visit to a Rock UK Centre, and applications must be submitted by the group leader.
