Rock UK Instructor Training Programme
At Rock UK we recognise that our staff are our greatest asset. To enable us to employ the best possible staff we have created the Rock UK Instructor Training Programme.
This 24 month programme develops our trainee staff personally, professionally and spiritually enabling them to be creative, outdoor professionals who are qualified to teach a range of adventurous activities.
It is because of this team of highly motivated, passionate and well-trained outdoor instructors that we are able to share the outdoors with young people, helping them to create memories for life.

- Do you want to train as an outdoor instructor?
- Are you keen to learn new skills and gain nationally recognised training and qualifications?

The Instructor Training Programme is delivered over a 24 month period of "on the job" training and continual assessment with the first 3 months based at Whithaugh Park in the Scottish Borders. You will then be assigned to one of our centres where you will spend the rest of the course working towards achieving National Governing Body (NGB) awards and qualifications.
We will work with you to ensure that you receive all the necessary training, support and resources required to attain the skills and qualifications to enable you to deliver the range of activities provided by Rock UK, and in particular the centre where you will be based.
The number of qualifications achieved will vary according to individual abilities and commitment and focus, however, during the first year of the course you will focus on our 6 core units of: Personal and Spiritual Development, Learning, Water, Ropes, Land and Safety. Within these units you will work on a variety of qualifications including: British Canoe Union (BCU) 2* award, BCU Level 1 coaching paddlesport award, BCU foundation safety and rescue award, archery leader award (GNAS), mountain bike skills, rope skills and First Aid, to name just a few elements.
During your second year you may be able to undertake additional training tailored to harness your natural abilities and interests, for example working towards NGB awards, including Single Pitch Award (SPA) – Climbing or Mountain Leader Awards (ML). Training and assessment in addition to that which is already covered by the course will be discussed on a case by case basis.
For more information about the course and the qualifications you can expect to achieve please contact Helen Tilney on 01933 654103 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org
The Rock UK Instructor Training Programme gives you the amazing opportunity to build and nurture a Personal Support Network of friends, family, church and others who will share your successes and challenges and may partner with you financially.
We ask that successful applicants try to raise at least £3000 per year to support the training programme costs. It may seem like a large amount initially, however the emphasis isn’t on the final amount raised by each individual but rather on you actively engaging in the process of support raising and overcoming the challenges you face. Some individuals go on to raise significantly more than the minimum amount. We will provide support and advice to assist you along the way including helping you to apply to funding bodies and charitable trusts.
For more information on raising support or developing your Personal Support Network please contact Helen Tilney on 01933 654103 or by email email@example.com or to apply online please click the appropriate box to the right of this page.
