Head of Activities and Leisure

Summit Centre, South Wales

Rock UK’s Summit Centre based in South Wales is looking to expand its team of instructors following a £4 million redevelopment project. Instructors will need to have a range of qualifications enabling them to coach in the 18 metre high indoor climbing wall, run taster sessions on site and take guests off site to enjoy the activities in the Brecon Beacons and surrounding areas.

With brand new 100 bed residential accommodation and activities opening in June 2018 the new Head of Activities and Leisure will build and lead the instructor team through significant change and will be instrumental in setting up the systems of work and developing the new activities.

The Head of Activities and Leisure will oversee the indoor climbing wall, on-site and off-site adventurous activities and community gym within the context of Rock UK’s charitable aims and Christian ethos. As a key member of the Centre Leadership Team, the Head of Activities and Leisure will be able to clearly and respectfully communicate our Christian ethos, mission and vision to staff and guests of all faiths and none. He or she will have overall responsibility for managing the delivery and development of the centre’s activity provision within Rock UK’s activity framework and will have a demonstrable track record in leading a team of activity instructors and trainees with a range of qualifications and experience.

The successful applicant will have qualifications including ML, SPA, UKCC L2 paddle sport with 4* or Moderate Water Endorsement (E) Local Cave Leader, MIA, 5* Canoe/Kayak (D)

Full Time 37.5 hours per week

Location: Trelewis near Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales (with occasional UK travel)

Salary: c£25k subject to experience

Administrator

Whithaugh Park, Newcastleton, Scottish Borders

We are looking for a full-time Administrator at our Whithaugh Park centre based in Newcastleton in the beautiful Scottish Borders.

If you have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, this role could be for you.

We are looking for someone to be a key part of the small admin team; the successful applicant will assist in the bookings process for both residential and day visitors, liaise with customers and support the centre leadership team. Attention to detail and a friendly telephone manner are essential.

The significant direct customer-facing aspects of the role requires the post-holder to appropriately represent Rock UK’s Christian ethos and values to groups.

This is a permanent, full-time position.

Salary around £15,000 per annum dependent on experience.

Lead Instructor

Whithaugh Park, Newcastleton, Scottish Borders

We currently have a vacancy for a Lead Instructor at our Whithaugh Park centre in the beautiful Scottish Borders.

Applicants should hold at least two of the following qualifications:

Summer Mountain Leader, Single Pitch Award (SPA), UKCC Level 2 Canoe & Kayak Coach or BC Level 2 Mountain Biking.

You will have experience of leading and motivating a team of instructors and trainees.
This is a permanent, full-time position.

Salary starts at £14,625 per annum with increments added for specific qualifications.

Seasonal Instructor

Summit Centre, South Wales

Rock UK Adventure Centres have a vacancy for a seasonal instructor based at our Summit Centre near Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales for the summer period.

Applicants should have experience of working in an outdoor adventure centre and hold a first aid certificate.

It is essential for applicants to have their CWA award. It is desirable if applicants also have their SPA qualification.

The successful applicant will be involved in instructing on the climbing wall as well as on our new Aerial Adventure (high ropes) course. You will also cover reception and floor-walking duties.

Rock UK is a Christian charity and the successful candidate is expected to be sympathetic to the Christian faith.

Salary starts at £15,125 per annum with increments added for further qualifications.

Freelance Instructors

Summit Centre, South Wales

We are currently looking for a couple of freelance instructors to supplement our permanent team of instructors at Summit Centre.

Freelance staff are involved in instructing both in the climbing wall and on our new Aerial Adventure (High Ropes) course, floor-walking and covering reception.

We have opportunities available for both occasional and regular shifts.

Freelance staff should have an interest in climbing and sharing their passion for this sport with others. They should have completed their CWA or SPA training. Support is available to help gain the necessary qualifications.
