Adventurous fun at Spree in the Borders

The programme at this year’s Spree in the Borders was jam-packed with activities, bible teaching and coloured paint!

We love to work in partnership with youth and children’s organisations across the country to transform young lives through outdoor adventure.

Working in partnership with Urban Saints, we welcomed over 200 children, young people and youth leaders to this year’s Spree in the Borders, a weekend event held at Whithaugh Park from 14th – 16th June.

Spree is a crazy weekend of activities, with a worship and teaching programme, which is designed to encourage young people (aged 8-15) to start or move forward in their spiritual journey. The programme at this year’s Spree in the Borders was jam-packed with activities, bible teaching, coloured paint and the odd midge!

Groups arrived Friday evening in time for supper, activities and a group welcome meeting.  Throughout Saturday and Sunday, children and young people took part in a range of adventure activities including the climbing tower, archery, high ropes, a lake party with canoeing, kayaking, raft building and water slides!

Our keynote speaker was Dez Johnston, Director for Alpha Scotland, who gave truly inspirational talks throughout the weekend.

During the weekend, youngsters showed off their dancing skills in ‘The Greatest Dancer’ talent show. A giant hunt-the-leader challenge resulted in a large number of kids being completely covered in coloured paint and a ‘silent’ disco, where everyone listens to their own choice of music through headphones, were popular activities. There was also a campfire and songs on Saturday evening.  On Sunday afternoon after more adventurous fun and worship sessions, the kids started their journeys home and no doubt returned a little tired but they will take with them memories for life!

Spree Spree Spree Spree

“As a children’s worker in a rural community, Spree is invaluable. The children get a taste of meeting other Christians their own ages, and the Rock UK instructors are such brilliant role models, full of energy and life.  The children wouldn’t get to experience anything of this scale at home – so we are very grateful for this event which brings lots of smaller groups together.”  Donna Hislop, Church of Scotland Children’s and Youth Worker

“Working with Rock UK is more than finding a venue to host Spree, it is true partnership. I am continually astounded by the generosity of time and energy, which the Rock staff display in the preparations and throughout the Spree Camp. They always have a smile on their faces and an encouraging word for those around them…Spree in the Borders could not happen without Rock’s passion for Jesus, willingness to get stuck in and fun loving spirit.”  Becca Ambrose, Impact Team Leader Scotland, Urban Saints

We look forward to next year’s Spree in the Borders and the upcoming Spree Central held at Frontier Centre from 5th – 7th July.  Find out more about holding Christian, youth or team building activities at your nearest Rock UK Adventure Centre.
